「2026 서울시 남북청년 사회통합 프로젝트」의 일환으로 운영되는 한강 유니티 기획단 발대식 및 오리엔테이션이 지난 6월 17일 서울 여의도 한국글로벌피스재단 세미나실에서 열렸다.

이번 행사는 한국글로벌피스재단이 주최하고 GPY Korea가 주관하며 서울특별시가 후원하는 「2026 서울시 남북청년 사회통합 프로젝트」의 본격적인 출범을 알리기 위해 마련됐다. 한강 유니티 기획단은 남북한 청년, 고려인 동포, 해외 출신 청년 대학생 등 서로 다른 배경을 가진 청년 19명이 한 팀을 이루어 사회통합 행사를 직접 기획하고 운영하는 청년 주도형 실전 프로젝트다.

이날 행사는 오프닝 및 환영사, GPY 및 서울시 사업 소개, 한강 유니티 기획단 소개, 단원 소개 및 아이스브레이킹, 임명식 및 선서 낭독, 팀 빌딩 게임, 활동계획 공유 및 질의응답 순으로 이어졌다. 참석자들은 프로젝트의 운영 취지와 활동 방향을 공유하고, 향후 5개월간 진행될 기획단 활동의 세부 일정을 확인했다.

환영사와 오프닝에서는 이번 프로젝트의 취지와 청년 참여의 의미가 소개됐다. 이어 GPY Korea는 글로벌피스유스가 한국글로벌피스재단의 청년 사업 부문으로서 코리안드림의 비전 아래 국경과 배경을 넘어 청년들이 사회 변화의 주체로 성장하도록 지원하는 국제 청년 NGO라고 설명했다. 이와 함께 코리안드림 크루, 남북청년 교류 프로그램, 글로벌 리더십 캠프 등 GPY Korea가 추진해 온 청년 네트워크 및 교류 프로그램도 소개됐다.

서울시 후원 사업에 대한 설명도 진행됐다. 이번 한강 유니티 기획단은 서울시의 후원으로 운영되며, 북한이탈주민, 재외동포, 외국 출신 청년들이 서울이라는 도시 안에서 고립되지 않고 함께 살아갈 수 있는 생태계를 조성하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 기획단 활동을 수료한 참여자에게는 서울시 명의의 공식 수료증이 발급되며, 활동 내용은 1365 자원봉사 포털에 공식 등록될 예정이다. 활동 결과물은 향후 정책 및 사례 공유 자료로 활용될 수 있다.

한강 유니티 기획단은 2026년 6월부터 10월까지 총 5개월 동안 운영된다. 운영 방식은 청년 주도형 기획 및 운영 전 과정 참여로 구성되며, 정기 회의는 매주 수요일 저녁 여의도 현장에서 진행된다. 참여 청년들은 사회통합 행사의 콘텐츠와 프로그램을 직접 설계하고, 현장 운영, 물품 관리, 대외협력, 홍보, 디자인, SNS 콘텐츠 제작, 언론 홍보 등 실무 전반을 담당하게 된다.

기획단은 기획팀과 홍보팀으로 나뉘어 활동한다. 기획팀은 콘텐츠 및 프로그램 기획, 현장 운영, 물품 관리, 대외협력 등을 맡고, 홍보팀은 콘텐츠 제작, SNS 운영, 디자인 및 제작물 관리, 언론 홍보 등을 담당한다. 이를 통해 참여 청년들은 행사 기획 단계부터 실행, 홍보, 결과 공유까지 전 과정에 참여하며 사회통합 프로그램을 직접 만들어가는 경험을 쌓게 된다.

임명식에서는 한강 유니티 기획단원으로서의 책임과 역할을 확인하는 선서 낭독이 진행됐다. 단원들은 서로 다른 배경을 가진 청년들이 함께 만드는 것의 힘을 믿고, 기획부터 운영까지 책임감 있게 참여하며, 이번 프로젝트를 통해 더 넓은 세계와 연결될 것을 다짐했다. 선서 낭독 이후에는 팀 빌딩 프로그램이 이어졌다. 참여자들은 평화와 화합의 상징이 될 슈퍼히어로를 팀별로 기획하고 발표하며, 한반도와 현대 사회가 겪는 문제를 청년의 관점에서 이해하고 표현하는 시간을 가졌다.

향후 한강 유니티 기획단은 매달 봉사활동을 기획하고 실행할 예정이다. 주요 일정으로는 7월 14일 북한이탈주민의 날 행사, 9월 중순 한강 유니티 페스타, 10월 3일 코리안드림 한강대축제 부스 운영, 10월 말 한강 유니티 기획단 수료식 등이 계획돼 있다. 북한이탈주민의 날 기념 활동으로는 남북청춘 한강동행 프로젝트 ‘Dream Making Zone’이 논의됐으며, 여의나루역 광장 일대에서 북한 음식 체험, 북한말 맞히기, 블라인드 친구 매칭, 북한이탈주민의 삶을 이해할 수 있는 독서 활동, 체험형 부스 운영 등의 프로그램이 검토됐다.

‘한강 유니티’라는 명칭은 한강이 지닌 상징성에 기반하고 있다. 한강은 한반도의 중심을 흐르는 강으로, 서로 다른 현실 속에 살아가는 사람들을 연결하는 공간적 의미를 갖는다. 이번 기획단은 이러한 상징성을 바탕으로 남북한 청년과 재외동포, 외국 출신 청년들이 만남과 협력을 통해 사회통합의 경험을 축적하는 것을 목표로 한다.

한강 유니티 기획단은 앞으로 정기 회의와 현장 활동을 통해 사회통합 프로그램의 구체적인 내용을 기획하고 실행할 예정이다. 주최 측은 이번 프로젝트를 통해 다양한 배경을 가진 청년들이 상호 이해와 신뢰를 형성하고, 서울 안에서 함께 살아가는 사회통합의 실천적 모델을 만들어가는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다고 밝혔다.

Hangang Unity Planning Committee Launches in Seoul

The launch ceremony and orientation for the Hangang Unity Planning Committee, operated as part of the 2026 Seoul Inter-Korean Youth Social Integration Project, was held on June 17 at the seminar room of Global Peace Foundation Korea in Yeouido, Seoul.

The event marked the official start of the project, which is hosted by Global Peace Foundation Korea, organized by GPY Korea and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The Hangang Unity Planning Committee is a youth-led, hands-on project in which 19 young people from different backgrounds, including South Korean youth, North Korean defector youth, members of the Goryeoin Korean diaspora and foreign youth living in Korea, work together as one team to plan and operate social integration programs.

The launch ceremony was held from 6 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. The program included an opening session and welcoming remarks, an introduction to GPY Korea and the Seoul-supported project, an overview of the Hangang Unity Planning Committee, participant introductions and icebreaking activities, an appointment ceremony and oath-taking, a team-building activity, and a session to share activity plans and answer questions. Participants reviewed the purpose of the project, its operating direction and the schedule for the five-month planning committee activities.

During the opening session, the organizers introduced the purpose of the project and the significance of youth participation in social integration. GPY Korea introduced Global Peace Youth as the youth division of Global Peace Foundation Korea and an international youth NGO that supports young people in becoming agents of social change across national and social backgrounds, under the vision of the Korean Dream. The organization also introduced its youth networking and exchange programs, including the Korean Dream Crew, inter-Korean youth exchange programs and global leadership camps.

The Seoul-supported project was also introduced during the orientation. The Hangang Unity Planning Committee is operated with the support of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and aims to help create an environment in which North Korean defectors, overseas Koreans and foreign-born youth are not isolated in the city of Seoul, but are able to live together as members of the same community. Participants who complete the program will receive an official certificate of completion issued under the name of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and their activities will be officially registered on the 1365 Volunteer Portal. The results of the activities will also be shared as policy and case-study materials.

The Hangang Unity Planning Committee will operate for five months, from June to October 2026. The project is designed as a youth-led process in which participants take part in all stages of planning and implementation. Regular meetings will be held every Wednesday evening in Yeouido. The participants will be responsible for designing the content and programs of social integration events, as well as managing on-site operations, supplies, external cooperation, publicity, design, social media content and media outreach.

The committee is divided into a planning team and a publicity team. The planning team is responsible for content and program planning, on-site operations, supplies management and external cooperation. The publicity team is responsible for content production, social media management, design and promotional materials, and media relations. Through this structure, the participants will gain practical experience in the entire process of social integration programming, from planning and implementation to publicity and outcome sharing.

During the appointment ceremony, the participants took an oath confirming their responsibilities and roles as members of the Hangang Unity Planning Committee. They pledged to believe in the power of people from different backgrounds working together, to participate responsibly from planning to implementation, and to connect with a wider world through the project. After the oath-taking, a team-building activity was held. Participants worked in teams to create and present a superhero symbolizing peace and harmony, using the activity to express their views on issues facing the Korean Peninsula and contemporary society.

The Hangang Unity Planning Committee will plan and carry out volunteer activities each month. Major planned activities include an event for North Korean Defectors’ Day on July 14, the Hangang Unity Festa in mid-September, a booth at the Korean Dream Hangang Grand Festival on October 3, and the Hangang Unity Planning Committee completion ceremony in late October. For the North Korean Defectors’ Day program, participants discussed the “Inter-Korean Youth Hangang Companion Project: Dream Making Zone,” with Yeouinaru Station Plaza considered as a possible venue. Proposed program elements included a North Korean food experience booth, a North Korean dialect quiz, blind friend matching, reading activities to help participants better understand the lives of North Korean defectors, and hands-on activity booths.

The name “Hangang Unity” reflects the symbolic meaning of the Han River. Flowing through the heart of the Korean Peninsula, the river represents a shared space that connects people living in different realities. Based on this symbolism, the committee aims to provide opportunities for South Korean youth, North Korean defector youth, overseas Koreans and foreign-born youth to build experiences of social integration through meeting, communication and cooperation.

The Hangang Unity Planning Committee will continue to develop and implement social integration programs through regular meetings and field activities. Through the project, the organizers plan to support young people from diverse backgrounds in building mutual understanding and trust while developing a practical model of social integration within Seoul.
